A husband and wife are shot to death during a home invasion in Beulah, Fla. Authorities say Byrd and Melanie had 16 children, 12 of them adopted. Eight of the youngsters were at home and asleep while their parents were killed.

Scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, monitored seismic activity within a section of the fault that produced a magnitude-7.8 earthquake in 1857.
